If life is just a game and fate a toss of the dice,
then Kalynn Campbell's paintings are, in fact, American Hieroglyphics, camouflaged
in the trappings of a dart board or game board.
Campbell's pieces actually reflect much larger issues - and the message
at the core of each seems to be: we mortals aren't much more than pieces
on a big, brightly colored board, moving through a game called, not life,
but Monopoly. He utilizes 20th century pop imagery to symbolize timeless
turmoils with just enough bite to make the viewer smirk instead of cry.
In Campbell's work, we can step back and see the events of our lives as
"moves" executed by the luck of the draw or the roll of the "bones
